Recreational marijuana use is an issue that affects so many lives of people over the years. Whether the user is young or old, it can still harm their health both physically and mentally, and despite the fact that people say it can help reduce or put an end to the drug war violence and thus lower down crime rates in countries like Mexico (Berlatsky, 2), meaning it would decrease the amount of violence and problems from occurring, it’s not enough to outweigh the risks of recreational marijuana on people. Basically, since marijuana has several harmful health effects like impairing your memory, respiratory problems and even cancer, behavior change, and so much more (Thompson, 1), the government should NOT legalize recreational marijuana.†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, student users of marijuana tend not to be able to focus properly and are not aware of their surroundings, and consequently affect their education (Thompson, 4). There are three major methods of persuasion, pathos, logos, and ethos. These methods have been used commonly from Shakespearian times up until today by skilled writers, to persuade readers into believing a certain thing or idea. In Shakespeares play, Othello, Iago the antagonist, Iago, applies the methods of persuasion including ethos, pathos, and logos to prove to the tragic hero, Othello, of his wifes disloyalty. There are many ways that Iago Manipulates Othello with ethos, or image, a very important persuasive method. Iago says, Or to be naked with her friend in bed (4. 1. 3). Iago is trying to fill Othello’s mind with images of Desdemona naked with Cassio. This makes Othello’s jealousy grow. Iago says, Men should be what hey seem; or those that be not would they might seen none! (3. 3. 126-127). He is saying that if a man is not true, he is not a man at all. Iago claims that he witnessed Cassio using Desdemonas handkerchief to wipe his beard. He is lying to Othello to make him think that Desdemona gave away the handkerchief, to Cassio. Othello says, Within these three days let me hear that Cassios not alive (3. 3. 469). Othello falls into Iagos trap and now wants his friend Cassio dead. Othello should not put all of his trust in Iago, but should talk with Desdemona and Cassio first before taking such harsh actions. Iago is making Othello have a strong feeling of hate for both Cassio, and Desdemona. Iago also uses the method of persuasion, logos, or logic. This method is commonly used today, and by Iago, and works very affectively. Iago says to Othello, [Desdemona] did deceive her father, marrying you; and when she seemed to shake and fear your looks, she loved them most (3. . 206-208). Iago manipulates Othello by telling of a logical reason for his wifes infidelity. He is trying to say that if Desdemona betrayed him once before, she can easily betray him again. Iago says, In sleep I heard [Cassio] say, Sweet Desdemona, let us be wary, let us hide our loves! (3. 3. 416-417). Iago is claiming that Cassio admitted his love for Desdemona in his sleep. This is another piece of evidence that Desdemona an d Cassio have a secret relationship together. Although this was false, it seemed logical, because people often say things in their sleep, sometimes things that are not wanted to be heard by others, or secrets. This story ends tragically, because of Iagos use of pathos, ethos, and logos, the three methods of persuasion. He manipulates Othello exactly how he planned, to the point where Othello murders his wife, Desdemona, and shortly after he realizes his mistake, takes his own life. This proves that jealousy can and will take over ones life, thus becoming a green-eyed monster.
